We are honored to welcome Mr. Steve Pimpo as the Ballet Theatre of Maryland's New Board Chairman for the 2016-2017 season.
As a long-time patron and supporter of the Ballet Theatre of Maryland, Steve comes to the position with energy and enthusiasm and a vision that welcomes all new patrons to become part of the Ballet Theatre of Maryland family.
How long have you been affiliated with BTM?
My wife and I have been involved with BTM since 1989.
What has been your experience having your family (daughters and wife) in the BTM school?
The BTM School experience has been wonderful. It has been a great environment for my wife and daughters to learn to dance from professional teachers, choreographers and the artistic director. The instruction and quality is outstanding; the teachers have been engaged and helpful; and the entire environment is professional, positive and encouraging.
What is your vision for the company in the next couple of years?
My vision is to build off of the great work that BTM and the board have done over the past few years and help take our organization to the next level. By leveraging our new partnership with the DeVos Institute and the Lyric, I want to expand our audience base throughout Maryland (and beyond) and help more people learn about and gain interest in the ballet, through our school and various outreach programs. I want to bring new people into the ballet family and help them understand what Dianna means when she says, “Dance is a language more powerful than words!"
How does your vision for the board work with the artistic vision for the company?
They are well aligned. The artistic director Dianna Cuatto and I have known each other for a long time and we have a strong working relationship based on mutual respect, admiration and shared vision.
What drew you to this organization and what makes BTM unique from other organizations you’ve been involved with?
Initially I was drawn to the organization because my wife and daughters took ballet classes and we regularly attended ballet performances. Since then, I have increased my involvement because of the passion Dianna has for creating and performing excellent ballet performances and her dedication to her dancers and students. We are fortunate to have such a talented artistic director and outstanding group of dancers who are committed to excellence and to being the best that they can be.
