Calder Taylor was born and raised in a small town in New Hampshire. He began to pursue his dance career at the age of eleven. He attended Main Central Institute, which has an intensive high school ballet program, Bossov Ballet Theatre. After graduating, Calder became a company member at Ballet Theatre of Maryland. He has performed many roles including Mr. Brooks in Little Women, Rothbart and Siegfried in Swan Lake, Arthur and Mordred in Excalibur, Tybalt in Romeo and Juliet, Ichabod and Brom Bones in The Legend of Sleepy Hollow, Dr. Coppelius in Coppélia, the Prince in Cinderella, the Beast in Beauty and the Beast, Le Fontaine in An American Southwest Carmen, the Mad Hatter in Alice in Wonderland, Major General Robert Ross in Star Spangled Sketches, the Djinn in Aladdin, Prince Ivan in The Firebird, the King in The Dancing Princesses, Theseus in A Midsummer Night's Dream and the Snow King, Russian, Spanish, Merlitons, Arabian, and Drosselmeyer in The Nutcracker. This is Calder's eleventh season with the company along with it being his second season as the Technical Director of Ballet Theatre of Maryland.
