Lauren Derrig is originally from Williamston, Michigan. She studied with Gregory M. George at Children’s Ballet Theatre of Michigan, and at Happendance studio in Okemos, MI. She attended summer intensives at American Ballet Theatre (ABT) of New York, ABT of Detroit, and University of NC School of the Arts (UNCSA). She also attended Complexions Contemporary Ballet Summer Intensive in Detroit and New York. She was a Finalist in the Michigan Maggie Allesee New Choreography Competition at Hope College, and a Finalist in the Michigan Youth Arts Festival at Western Michigan University. She is a graduate of the UNCSA in 2012 where she received her BFA in Classical Ballet and secondary training in Contemporary dance under many instructors.
Lauren is a co-author with former Kirov Ballet and current UNCSA faculty member, Mrs. Nina Danilova, of “Classical Ballet Variations of Marius Petipa.” and Ms. Derrig is photographed for the step-by-step breakdown of Petipa’s traditional classical ballet variations.
Prior to joining Ballet Theatre of Maryland, Lauren danced with Ballet Quad Cities as a company member for the 2012-2013 Season and danced as an Apprentice with Charlotte Ballet (formerly North Carolina Dance Theatre) for the 2013-2014 season. Lauren returns for her third season dancing as a Soloist with Ballet Theatre of Maryland in the 2016-2017 season.
