Mini-Performances

During the 2020-2021 academic year, the Ballet Theatre of Maryland will offer shortened performances of three of the company’s season productions.  “Minis” are performances especially staged for school groups and senior centers held at various locations this season due to the pandemic.  There is ample free parking for buses and access for persons with disabilities. Students will be engaged with a full-fledged story ballet as narration, sets, costumes, props, professional dancers, ballet, musical theatre and music, mesh to transform historic, classic and fabled tales into powerful artistic experiences. Each performance is approximately one hour long and is preceded by a brief introduction to help the students enjoy and appreciate the ballet to follow. The goal is to introduce ballet to children using the powerful language of dance as a means of understanding literature, history and culture.

To reserve space for your students via check, please download and fill out the ticket order form.

Tiny Toes in the Studio: BTM's Access to Classics Program for Preschoolers
With generous support from the PNC Foundation, Venable Foundation, Target, and individual donors, Ballet Theatre of Maryland makes classical dance and creative movement accessible to underserved preschoolers and their teachers. Tiny Toes in the Studio develops new knowledge, skills and inspiration about dance, music, theater that children and their teachers integrate into core skills in pre-reading, social sciences and math. The program is designed as a series of four sessions with each preschool class to enable lasting change in teacher’s skills and children’s development. For more information on this innovative program, please contact our office at 410-224-5644 or btmmgr@balletmaryland.org

Arts Integration Residency Program in Anne Arundel County Schools
The BTM residency/performance program with Anne Arundel County Public Schools began in the 2012-2013 season and continues today with partial support to the schools from the Arts Council of Anne Arundel County. In this residency program, a BTM teacher teaches 10 weeks in 5 different underserved elementary schools, using arts integration for students to create a story ballet segment, make dialogue, props, choreography and an informative speaker presentation. Students are also mentored by professional dancers. The program culminates with a public performance with BTM company dancers at North County High School.

Young Audiences of Maryland
BTM partners with Young Audiences of Maryland to provide assembly performances, workshops, artist-in-residence, and arts integrated residencies to public and private schools in Maryland. Each program achieves the following: 1) addresses the Maryland Voluntary State Curriculum in the fine arts and other academic areas; 2) enhances appreciation of the cultural arts and builds knowledge in the arts; 3) creates opportunities for enhancing the curriculum; 4) increases understanding of other cultures; and 5) builds 21st Century skills.  For more information or to schedule a program, please contact Young Audiences at 410-837-7577 e-mail: info@yamd.org. or visit their website here.
