Emma Lane
Corps de Ballet
Emma, originally from Overland Park, Kansas, began her ballet training at the Kansas City Ballet School at six years old. While at KCBS she had opportunities to perform with the Kansas City Ballet in ballets such as Todd Bolender’s The Nutcracker, Septime Webre’s Alice (in Wonderland,) William Whitner’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream, and the world premiere of Devon Carney’s The Nutcracker. In addition to her training at KCBS during high school, Emma was a member of the Kansas City Youth Ballet under the direction of Kimberly Cowen. In KCYB she was able to perform new works as well as excerpts from many classical ballets. After high school, Emma continued her education and training at the University of Missouri-Kansas City. In the UMKC Conservatory of Music and Dance, Emma was taught by individuals such as Paula Weber, Tobin James, and Karen Brown and performed in Geroge Balanchine’s Concerto Barocco set by Nilas Martins and Tom Gold’s 8 Items or Less among many other ballets. Throughout her training, Emma also attended summer intensives at Missouri Contemporary Ballet, artEmotion, BalletMet, Ballet West, and The Jillana School and worked with teachers and choreographers such as Margo Sappington, Autumn Eckman, Grace Holmes, Jennifer Owen, and Anthony Krutzkamp. After graduating from UMKC in 2021 with a BFA in Dance and a BA in Communication Studies, Emma joined The Ballet Theater of Maryland as a trainee. This is her fourth season with BTM and first season as a Corps de Ballet dancer.
